We started our house hunt Sunday and it was so much fun!!! I've already fallen in love with two of the homes we looked at. They are in Yukon, on the outskirts of the city....but still close to a major expressway so I could get back to the middle of everything fairly quickly. The pictures are of the first one...it has a really open dining room, kitchen and living room area with a fireplace, cool light fixtures, granite and marble countertops in the kitchen and bathroom and hardwood floors. It's the perfect size- 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
The homes were in a new addition called Meadow Lake. They were cute little brick homes with shutters and fenced in yards. There is a huge lake in the center of the addition, and they are planning to make it really pretty and have swimming there in a year or two.
We were pre-qualifed last night, which just means the lender gave us a rough estimate of how much she thought we would be pre-approved for. All of the homes are in the price range she gave us! The only problem is that Ryan doesn't start his residency until the end of June or the first part of July. That really SUCKS because we may miss the tax credit deadline by one day- and I would be so pissed.

love, love, LOVE the pictures of the house(s?)!! and it's hard to tell in pictures, but the color on the walls looks like the color we picked for OUR wall color! very fun stuff! :)
may i give a word of advice? well, i'm going to anyway, so i don't know why i'm asking. :) sit down with your budget and determine how much you feel comfortable paying each month and give YOURSELF a limit on the house price tag - they very well might "approve" you for something that is actually more than you want to spend each month... you want to avoid being "house poor" - as in, you've stretched yourself so far with the house payment that there's not much room for anything else.
just a suggestion! (you know i can't help myself) :) so excited for you guys!!
Hahaha! I had no idea that you had started a blog called the Skinny Cows. Too funny!
I love your pictures of the house you looked at. I hate that things have to be so up in the air for you guys right now. Isn't looking at homes fun, though?
I totally agree with Jenny about the house budget you create for yourself, regardless of what you're approved for. So many people recommend not using the full allotment. I've also heard that you should limit your home budget to a house payment you can afford should one of you lose your job. And I'm totally on board with Jenny in being "house poor." It totally sucks not getting to go and do anything else, so ... Now that I've butted my nose into your business too ...
Have so much fun looking at houses!! And post more fun pics!
