T-Town and a Scentsy Party

My Friday work day ended early when my boss announced we could leave at 5. I jumped in my car with my bags pre-packed and headed down the turnpike to see Rhiannon and Travis.

Rhiannon was in Edmond at a spa day, and we left town around the same time. I beat her to Tulsa, so Travis and I went to Target to get some yummy breakfast food. When we got back, Rhiannon was waiting for us and we immediately got back into the car to have dinner at Chili's. Travis had invited their neighbors to join us because they had never really hung out. We all spent the evening trading stories and getting to know them. Nice people, they were from the Virginia area and have a cute beagle that they dress up for holidays. Ha!

After we left Chili's, we came back to the apartment and settled in for drinks and a movie. I convinced her to watch Shutter Island because I had already seen it. The premise is so crazy that I wanted to see it again, and told Rhiannon that it wasn't scary. She disagreed with that statement several times throughout the movie (and had trouble sleeping- I feel bad now, but I really didn't think it would bother her!)

My friend and her cute dog

Saturday morning, Rhiannon cooked us a huge breakfast of sausage, pancakes and eggs. Then we drove around running errands. She stopped at a cute paper shop to check prices on wedding invitation paper and then we went to Target to buy food for the Scentsy party.

That afternoon, Rhiannon's mom came over and we made a veggie tray, amazing bruschetta, stuffed mushroom caps, two kinds of wings, spring rolls, chocolates, cheesecake bites and hummus.

We had just finished with the food when Rhiannon's friend Kate called and told her that her dog had been hit by a car. She wasn't going to be able to make it. Then we got more news that a few other girls couldn't make it either. I think Rhiannon was a little bummed, but she cheered up when we started eating and then Reggie's mom showed up. We had a good time smelling and commenting on all the scents.....and made a pretty good dent in the food.

I was sad to leave that night, but I had to open the next day at the restaurant. It was a super short visit but I'm glad I got the chance to catch up and spend some quality time with those crazy kids and their dog.

Weekend Anticipation

Today is Friiiiiiidayyyyyy!

And I'm in a great mood. The weather is supposed to hit 73 degrees today, and I'm headed to Tulsa to see Rhiannon after work. Yay!

She is having a Scentsy party tomorrow, and I didn't want to drive all that way for just a few hours of fun. I demand a whole 24 hours of fun. So we will spend tomorrow getting things ready for her party and maybe we'll party a bit tonight. I'm breaking out some of my hosting serverware since it's all still in boxes because I've had no reason to use it. Ha.

Thunder Up

I just got back from a nerve-wracking interview for a position as Corporate Communications Manager for the OKC Thunder. I honestly have no clue if it went well or not....I feel like I answered all of his questions pretty intelligently, but I was so nervous that I spoke in a bit of a monotone. I'm afraid I came across as boring. He said there were 300 people that applied for the position and I am one of the 20 people that he's interviewing for round one. Holy smokes. He will contact me if I made it to round two, and he wants the person to start by Feb. 21. That's very soon!

So...I'm not sure if you should wish me luck or not. I would be excited/thrilled/terrified/sad if I was offered the spot. I've been with Crosby-Volmer for more than three years and have no huge reason to leave, other than things can be a little monotonous and I haven't had a raise for awhile. I do love my boss and Patrick, and we're moving to a new office space.

Funny how much of your life is spent at work....it really can become part of your DNA, who you are. Little things like today (interview) could spark a huge change in what you do every day, where you go, the people you meet, the attitude you take on.

It's in their court (haha!) now, I'll wait and see.

Weekend Review

I didn't get a weekend off....I lived at the restaurant. It was exhausting.

I worked a double on Saturday. Lunch was pretty slow, and I didn't feel like driving home during my two hour break, so I just hung out and ate lunch there and read my book (The Girl Who Played with Fire, it is fantastic!) My night shift started out horrible with two ladies camping at one of my tables for almost 3 hours. Things didn't get much better when the last table of the night left without leaving me a tip. It was 3 people, with a $60 tab and we had been joking around, they were really nice, and I didn't mind waiting around for an extra hour and a half when I could have been finishing up my side work and getting home. When they left, I saw a line drawn through the tip part of the credit card slip. I looked high and low around the table because surely they had left me some cash. Nope. What is wrong with people??

I got home around midnight and went straight to bed. Then I woke up and put on my work clothes again. Sunday morning opening shifts are the worst. I got there at 10, and nobody even came into the restaurant until 12:30. It was probably the slowest I have ever seen it. The manager sent everyone home around 1. She had cut me too, but I asked to stay because I needed to make some more money. I was there until 5 and did ok, since we had a little pop right before the evening shift took over.

Now it's Monday and I need a break.

I Can See, I Can See!

Yep, I finally broke down and went to the eye doctor. I am now in possession of my first pair of glasses. I don't plan to wear them all the time, but they are FABULOUS for driving (especially at night)! I didn't realize how bad my vision was until I had these.

I wear them all the time now for driving. I still feel weird wearing them around though. I can see fine close up, so I feel like a phony if I have them on when I'm not driving.

My Love/Hate Relationship

My body and I were not always enemies. In high school, I ate whatever I wanted. Many times, lunch was Mazzio's pizza drenched in ranch with a Coke and chips from the vending machine. I was fit, wore a size 7/8 and was never self-concious about the way I looked. I loved wearing shorts and swimsuits in the summer. I don't remember when the scale started to creep up, I think it was my junior and senior year of college that I started to notice some weight gain.

When I graduated, I was still pretty happy with the way I looked. Then, I started my miserable job at KTEN and food became my comfort. I was too exhausted to keep up with a workout routine, but still wanted to eat like I always had. There were weeks of panic where I would try to diet and use the fitness center at the apartment complex, but I always fell back into my bad habits.

Summer of 2009, I was engaged and trying on wedding dresses. I had never felt fatter. My dream dress was at least two sizes two small, but I was resolute- I would finally lose the weight in time for the wedding. I should have added "and then keep it off" to that resolution.

I dropped 30 pounds in 6 months with a combination of back-to-back boot camp classes and a little bit healthier diet. I felt great and looked great in my dress, and I had the best intentions to keep going.....but almost a year later, I've put almost every pound back on.

It's so depressing. I love food and I love to eat. I do it to myself, and then beat myself up about it. Every day there's a battle inside of my head....I'm starving! This bag of chips really won't make that much of a difference. This garlic cheese bread is too good to waste. I can't say no!!!!! And I don't have time to work out.

I need to find a way to change my lifestyle but it seems so....impossible. I bought a Groupon for a boot camp class in Edmond, so if I could just find the motivation and the time to go 3 days a week, I might start caring about what I'm eating again. I would love to lose 40-50 lbs before our high school reunion (I'm dreaming).

Sigh.

The Battle is Over

After three frustrating, loooong months of arguing over a new couch selection, we made a decision yesterday and purchased one from I'O Metro!

As everyone who reads this blog already knows I gave in to the ginormous bigscreen TV for our living room and naturally felt I should have the final say in our couch.

Ryan and I flip-flopped over material....he started out wanting leather and I was violently opposed to the idea. Then, the more we looked, the more I realized how much more leather suited the overall modern feel to the house. But by then, Ryan had changed his mind and wanted fabric because it was more "comfy." Which I don't disagree, but I was now dead set on finding a (semi)comfortable leather couch...looks over comfort

I had been to I'O Metro twice and the second time I went without Ryan so I could take my time. I found an espresso brown leather sectional that was pretty comfortable, and would take up enough room to where we wouldn't have to purchase any separate pieces.

I brought Ryan in yesterday because he promised to compromise after he canceled the Dallas IKEA trip. To my huge surprise, he liked it enough to buy it! I was elated!!! Then we promptly got into another argument about whether we were getting a round (my choice) or a square (his choice) ottoman to go with it, lol. We had the store employees move one of the square tables over and Ryan realized that round was the way to go.

Hanging out in style.

It will be here in 6-8 weeks:)
